A commanding win last week over Visakha triggered wild celebrations in the NagaWorld circles but champagne corks are yet to pop as the newly crowned Metfone C League Champions formally end the season this Saturday against National Police at the Army Stadium.

The outcome will make no impact on Naga’s third title following their success twice before in 2007 and 2009 but the game could well be a high stakes one on the personal front for Nigerian George Bisan who has a two-goal lead – on 24 – over Cameroonian Befolo Mbarga of Asia Europe United in the tussle for the Golden Boot.

Naga coach Meas Channa’s idea of an icing on the cake is to wind up with a victory. But at the same time the coach wants his most dependable, consistent and punishing striker throughout the season Bisan George emerge as top scorer.

‘Double delight’

“We are all waiting for this double delight and we hope George can stay ahead of his only rival Mbarga,” Meas Channa was quoted as saying in the social Med Interestingly, the AEU camp has every reason to believe that Mbarga is still in with a chance and that optimism stems from the fact that the side will be playing winless Western, who went down 1-6 in the first round.

There is little to play for when it comes to the Police except to bolster their morale with a good performance against the champs ahead of their Hun Sen Cup final tilt against the Ministry of National Defense on October 6.

Ministry of National Defense, who are assured of a fourth place finish, will also try to make the best out of their clash with second from the bottom EDC as a warm-up for the Cup aspirations.

On Sunday, Boeung Ket will take the pitch against Phnom Penh Crown for one last time this season as the defending champions before handing over the precious tag to Naga. With a four point lead over Vishaka, Boeung ket are in no danger of being pushed out of the second spot. Similarly Vishaka who are well ahead of the rest will end up third no matter what the result is against Preah Khan Reach at the Svay Rieng Stadium.

In an all Siem Reap affair, Soltilo and Angkor Tiger FC will entertain the local crowd at the Svay Thom Stadium.

The top four in the standings going into the final round of matches are Nagaworld (53 points), Boeung Ket (49), Visakha (45) and Ministry of National Defense (36).
