Explore wildlife and aquafarming at Thmor Da Teuk Chha Keat Kheng

Thmor Da Teuk Chha Keat Kheng is the only agritourism resort in Kampong Cham that features a zoo that’s home to wildlife such as turtles, crocodiles, storks, grey herons, wood-storks, bears, and ostriches. It attracts tourist from across the world.

Kheng, 69, who owns the resort, told The Post that the site was originally a fish farm before he was encouraged by the former governor to turn it as a zoo as it had great potential to draw visitors.

In the beginning, he raised only a few animals, but after nine years in operation, the resort now stretches 20ha and features the zoo and an aquafarm with millions of fishes.

Trees, small and large, have been planted throughout the resort which also has a very colourful flower garden, which is a sight to behold when viewed from above the ground.

Kheng says he created a water system by drawing the precious liquid from Beung Chha. Considered as “borrowed water”, it is later released back at a paddy field so as not to waste it.

Thanks to technical support from his Vietnamese friend, Kheng says he is 90 per cent successful in raising fish, and now even supplies between five and six million striped catfish and several other species to markets throughout Cambodia annually.

The resort is open daily with ticket prices at 2,000 riel each.

The money collected from ticket sales, Kheng says, is not enough to operate the zoo. But since the resort also has an aquaculture business, he uses fishes from the farm to feed some of the animals.

The rest of his wildlife eat vegetables purchased from the local market. The important thing is the contribution to the tourism sector, he said.

Thmor Da Teuk Chha Keat Kheng agritourism resort is located in Thmor Da Teuk Chha Village, Boeung Nay Commune, in Prey Chhor District, Kampong Cham Province.
